    Summary

David draws on Jesus’ compassion for the crowds and His words about the plentiful harvest to show that the Lord sees people with heaven’s eyes and calls His followers to join His work. At Jacob’s well, Jesus crossed social and religious barriers to meet a burdened Samaritan woman. He exposed her need without condemning her, offered living water, and revealed Himself as the Messiah. His disciples were urged to look beyond earthly distinctions and recognize people as precious to God.

The church is not divided into a class of ministers and a class of recipients. All believers, once in need of grace, are called to become its channels. David illustrates this through three accounts in Matthew 9. The friends who brought a paralysed man to Jesus acted together in faith, showing the unity, knowledge of Christ, and maturity toward which the body is to grow. Matthew’s call shows that Christ meets people where they are and calls them to follow Him; service must flow from compassion, not pride, duty, or a desire for recognition. The woman who touched Jesus’ garment shows that His life and help must be within reach of those in need.

Romans 12 teaches believers to offer themselves wholly to God, be transformed in mind, serve humbly according to their gifts, and love one another sincerely. First Corinthians 12 reminds the church that the Spirit gives different gifts for the common good: every member matters, and members share one another’s burdens and joys. David calls believers to serve where God has placed them, remain dependent on the Spirit, and look outward with Christ’s compassion, so that His body may reach those who need salvation, support, and hope.

    Scriptures Referenced
    Matthew 9:35-38

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. 36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; 38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

    John 4:10-14

10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

    John 4:35-36

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

    Matthew 25:31-40

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: 32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: 33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. 37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

    Ephesians 4:11-13

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
