    Summary

Brother Stephen delivered a ministry emphasizing the life and prophetic calling of Samuel from First Samuel chapters 7 and 16. Stephen highlighted that Samuel's birth was a divine intervention, born through God's grace and his mother's prevailing prayer, symbolizing how new spiritual life begins through God's sovereign grace. Samuel was set apart even before birth, chosen by God, and grew in the Lord, which allowed God to reveal Himself more fully. Stephen explained that Samuel's prophetic ministry was rooted in hearing God's voice—an essential qualification for a prophet—rather than eloquence. Samuel's faithful ministry, despite Israel's spiritual decline, turned hearts back to God, especially through his intercession and prayer, exemplified by the Ebenezer stone, symbolizing God's help. Stephen drew parallels between Samuel and Christ, emphasizing that Christ embodies prophet, priest, and king, and believers are called to function similarly. He warned against human tendencies to perpetuate their own ministries or to act prematurely, stressing patience and obedience to God's timing. The message concluded with a call for believers to emulate Samuel’s faithfulness, especially in the coming age of divine change, trusting God's purpose to be fulfilled through steadfast service until the King is brought in.

    Outline of Main Points

    • Samuel's divine intervention and supernatural birth symbolize God's sovereign grace.

    • His set-apart life from before birth highlights God's predestined purpose.

    • Growing in the Lord allows God to reveal Himself more fully.

    • The essential qualification of a prophet is hearing God's voice, not eloquence.

    • Prophetic ministry involves speaking God's truth to turn hearts back to Him.

    • Samuel's prayer and intercession demonstrate the highest priestly function.

    • He is a type of Christ—prophet, priest, and king—modeling believers' spiritual roles.

    • Patience and obedience are vital; rushing God's timing leads to failure.

    • Israel's rejection of God's kingship and their demand for a human king reveal their spiritual blindness.

    • Samuel's faithfulness in anointing David signifies God's ultimate purpose for His chosen leaders.

    • Believers are called to emulate Samuel’s faithfulness until God's divine purpose is fulfilled.

    Scriptures Referenced
    1 Samuel 16:6-13

6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD’S anointed is before him. 7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. 9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. 10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. 11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. 12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. 13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

    1 Samuel 16:1

1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

    1 Samuel 7:2-17

2 And it came to pass, while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long; for it was twenty years: and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

3 And Samuel spake unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD, and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines. 4 Then the children of Israel did put away Baalim and Ashtaroth, and served the LORD only. 5 And Samuel said, Gather all Israel to Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD. 6 And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the LORD, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpeh.

7 And when the Philistines heard that the children of Israel were gathered together to Mizpeh, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the children of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines. 8 And the children of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us, that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines. 9 And Samuel took a sucking lamb, and offered it for a burnt offering wholly unto the LORD: and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel; and the LORD heard him. 10 And as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel: but the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines, and discomfited them; and they were smitten before Israel. 11 And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh, and pursued the Philistines, and smote them, until they came under Bethcar. 12 Then Samuel took a stone, and set it between Mizpeh and Shen, and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Hitherto hath the LORD helped us.

13 So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the coast of Israel: and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel. 14 And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron even unto Gath; and the coasts thereof did Israel deliver out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorites. 15 And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life. 16 And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel, and Gilgal, and Mizpeh, and judged Israel in all those places. 17 And his return was to Ramah; for there was his house; and there he judged Israel; and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
