    Be Steadfast

    Summary

    Roger encourages believers to remain steadfast and unmovable in Christ, drawing on Paul’s words in Colossians and other Scriptures. Though the church faces opposition, Christ is the believer’s sure foundation and the source of all wisdom and knowledge. Christians are to continue in the faith, firmly attached to Him, resisting persuasive arguments that sound attractive but draw people away from biblical truth.

    Roger pictures the church as both a securely founded house and a disciplined army. Believers stand shoulder to shoulder, holding the shield of faith together against the enemy’s attacks. They are rooted in Christ, built up in Him, and established in faith. This growth depends on delighting in and regularly feeding on God’s Word, which nourishes believers and guards them from deception.

    Roger warns against being taken captive by worldly philosophy, human traditions, and false spiritual teaching. He also urges the assembly to preserve a simple, pure, single-minded devotion to Christ, rather than being led astray. Finally, Hebrews 10 calls believers to draw near to God, hold fast to their hope, and encourage one another. Forsaking the gathering of the church is treated as turning away from Christ and His body. Roger’s central appeal is that the assembly remain united, alert, faithful, and continually dependent on the Lord, who establishes and builds up His people.

    Scriptures Referenced
    1 Corinthians 15:58

    58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

    Colossians 1:23

    23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

    Colossians 2:1-8

    1 For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

    4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. 8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

    2 Corinthians 11:2-3

    2 For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. 3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

    Hebrews 10:19-25

    19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
