Brother Sparks discusses the prophecies of Isaiah, particularly focusing on the question raised in Isaiah 53:1, "Whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?" He emphasizes that the cross of Jesus Christ serves as a foundation for recovery and rebuilding, marking a transition from despair to hope. As he examines chapters 54 and beyond, he notes the bright prospects and hopeful messages that emerge, despite the presence of uncertainties and challenges. The foundation laid by the cross prompts a critical question: what will be built upon it? Brother Sparks draws parallels between the Old Testament and the New Testament, particularly highlighting the letters to the Romans and Corinthians. He stresses that while the foundation is Christ crucified, the challenge lies in ensuring that the superstructure built upon it aligns with God's will. He warns against incorporating worldly values and attitudes, emphasizing that God desires a building characterized by love, patience, and kindness. Ultimately, Brother Sparks calls for a reflection on what truly constitutes spiritual maturity and the importance of love as the essential material for building the church.
13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high. 14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men: 15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.
Chapter 53
1 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
1 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.
1 Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee.
1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the house of Jacob their sins.
19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
